My first experience with authentic American barbecue ribs occurred at my mother-in-law’s house, where the tantalizing aroma of ribs wafted through the air as I walked through the door. The moment I took my first bite, I was immediately entranced by the tenderness and juiciness of the meat, which seemed to melt in my mouth with every chew. The fall-off-the-bone quality was unlike anything I had ever tasted, and it left a lasting impression on my culinary aspirations.

Intrigued by the art of cooking ribs, I sought to replicate that unforgettable experience in my own kitchen. In this quest, I became aware of the nutritional aspects of barbecue sauces that often accompany these delectable ribs. Recognizing the significant sugar and preservative content in most store-bought options inspired my search for a healthier alternative. Thus emerged my desire to create a homemade chipotle sauce, one that would marry rich flavors with wholesome ingredients while complementing the ribs perfectly.

The Step-by-Step Cooking Guide

Start by placing the ribs on the cutting board bone side up and inspect for the silvery membrane that covers the back. Gently lift a corner of the membrane and pull it away from the ribs.

Apply barbecue or your favorite seasonings over both sides of the rib, and massage the rub into the meat for optimal flavor infusion

Preheat the oven to 275℉ . This low temperature is essential for slow cooking, which helps to break down the collagen in the meat, resulting in tender and juicy ribs.

Next, line a baking pan with aluminum foil. Once lined, place a baking rack inside the pan. Arrange the seasoned baby back ribs on the baking rack. Cover the baking pan tightly, with the aluminum foil.

Place the baking pan in the oven for three hours.

After the ribs have been slow-cooked to perfection, coat them generously with the homemade chipotle barbecue sauce on both sides.

Set the oven to broil and move the oven rack to the upper level. Transfer the pan to the oven under the broiler. Broil the ribs for about 3 minutes, meat side up.

After broiling, allow ribs to rest for a few minutes to let the juice redistribute, making them tender and tasty. Serve with additional chipotle barbecue sauce on the side for dipping.
